Bougainvillea Spectoglabra

Bougainvillea Spectoglabra

‚Bougainvillea x spectoglabra' combines the best characteristics of its parents: the vigorous growth and long flowering period of Bougainvillea spectabilis with the better cold adaptability and resistance of Bougainvillea glabra. As a vigorous climber, it can reach heights of over 8 meters with its flexible and sturdy branches. This makes it well-suited for covering large areas such as sunny walls, pergolas, or fences. Its long, abundant purple blooms stand out against the lush, bright green foliage. Although it prefers warm, sunny locations, the mature plant also adapts to colder areas with temperatures down to -8°C or lower, provided it is grown against a south-facing wall and sheltered from the wind. In regions with harsh winters, persistent and late frosts, it is advisable to protect it or to grow it in a large pot. It prefers full sun and well-drained, light, and fertile soil with a pH between slightly acidic and neutral. It does not tolerate waterlogging. Moderate watering is important. Too much water causes root rot and poor flowering. It is recommended to feed it with fertilizers rich in potassium and phosphorus to promote abundant flowering.
